Back to the Western Front MK2.

Me,Dave and Matt had arranged a large game of Great War for this week at club,Dave would be defending with his 1,000pts of Germans agains’t Me and Matts combined 1,000pt British and Canadian forces. There was 3 objectives for the allies to attack, first up the ruined town.

Each of the groups of buildings(5 in total) were worth a vp,at the end of the game who ever held the most took the objective.

Next up the fortified Hill.

You might remember this from a couple of past games me and Dave have play, again as before who ever had the most scoring units in it at the end took the objective.

Finally in the center of the board was a bunker.

The allied forces had to destroy this to neutralize the objective and make it a 2 objective game.

As i had gone up agains’t the hill before we decided Matt would have a crack at it this time with his Canadian’s (using the Over the Top army list).

Well he did have Arthur the tank to give him a helping had :).

My main force was to take the town.

I was also using an Over the Top army list for my British force but instead of a tank i had a squad of Cavalry, hmm this might not end well 😉 .

Both me and Matt had also positioned a couple of units ready to attack the bunker.

The game started well for the Allies with us quickly advancing on the German lines

I was not taking to many casulties as i was managing to keep the Hun’s heads down with my HMG support fire as well as Dave rolling some rubbish dice for his off field artillery.

On the other flank Matt was starting to take heavy casulties but his tank had made it to the hill with out breaking down.

but than some of those nasty Hun’s stuck some bomb’s to it and knock it out.

In the center one of Matt’s companies had made it to the bunker and had assaulted it,out of the 11 or so attacks he only got 1 penetrating hit but what a hit,he role a 6 on the table and the bunker went up in flames…. hurrah…..but when the dush cleared all his command squad and half an infantry squad were lying dead :(.

On my flank i was now at the wire.

With a few luck shots i took out most of the first wave of defenders including the HMG but then after some poor rolling got stuck in the barbed wire, this gave the Germans second wave a chance to move up but there was just not enough of them to hold back the tide.

The cavalry got in to the action charging in

but as they were attacking into difficult groung the Germans got to attack first and pulled 5 of my gallent chaps down for only 1 casulty in return :(.

At this point we were at turn 7 of 8 and time was getting on so we called it a night. The bunker was destoryed, the Hill was still in German hands and there was no way i was going to get any support over to Matt in time to make a differance. As for the town Dave only had a few troops left and i was in a perfect place to sweep them away in the final turn to take the town.So we called it a close fought draw.

Just like to say a big thanks to Dave and Matt for coming down to club,it was a great evening  gaming and i’m really looking forward to some more Great War action soon :).

Cheers,Steve.
