Day two of the tour saw us first visit the spectacular new Meaux Museum.
Early War German uniforms.
French War Posters.
Weapons of War.
After lunch we were then off to La Ferte Sous Jouarre to see the two British memorials on the banks of the Marne, this was one of the main reasons I booked this tour as one of my Great Uncles is remember on the main memorial.
My Great Uncle T.E. Reach (served as T.Hedford).
The Royal Engineers memorial, this is at the point were they built a pontoon bridge to cross the Marne, a bit moving to look at the point were Tom march off never to return……….
We then moved on to the huge US memorial at Chateau-Thierry.
And then visited another US memorial and battlefield in a wooded area before moving on to are last stop at Dormans.
More trench lines.
The death mask of Marechal Foch.
So that was the end of day two and a very moving day for myself, the final day saw us off to the Verdun battlefield but you’ll have to wait to next update for that.
