The Battle of St Beocca’s Abbey, Dark Ages WAC.

This week at club we had some extended gaming time so a good chance for a larger game. Matt, Jen & Dave were keen so we decided to dust of are Dark Ages army and join in battle ;o). Matt as always wrote us up a nice scenario, see his blog for full details http://thewargamestable.blogspot.co.uk/ . We sorted out 2,000pts armies each with me and Jen fielding are Viking armies against Dave and Matts Norman and Saxon alliance and prepared for battle.

Here’s the set, Vikings to the left, the Allies to the Right.

As always with Dark Ages games there was a lot of shuffling forward in Shieldwall formation at are end of the table (I was facing Matts Saxons) before the lines hit and the bloody work began. On the other flank it started well for the Normans with them sweeping away the Viking light troops with there cavalry but once they started mixing with the harder Viking troops they didn’t fair so well and in the end were all driven off and destroyed. While this was going on my Hirdmen were doing a job on Matts Saxon units butchering one after another.

With both the Allied armies troops ever destroyed or fleeing the field we call a halt to the game, a Victory to the Nordic Horde :o).

Anyway that’s it for now, a big thanks to Matt, Jen and Dave for such a good game, always a pleasure :o).

Cheers, Steve
